DebiCheck help / Nedbank
How to approve a DebiCheck on Nedbank
Nedbank sends an Approve-it message to your phone, or an SMS. The fastest way is the Nedbank Money app: tap your account, then Debit orders, then Mandates to authorise. No app? Dial *120*001#.
In the Nedbank Money app
- Log in with your app PIN, fingerprint or Nedbank ID.
- Tap your account and choose 'Debit orders'.
- Go to 'Mandates to authorise'.
- Choose the waiting DebiCheck.
- Check the details.
- If everything is correct, tap 'Authorise'.
With the phone menu (USSD)
- Nedbank sends an SMS to your registered cellphone number.
- Dial *120*001#.
- Choose DebiCheck. Nedbank's DebiCheck guide shows this as option 5.
- Enter the first six digits of your ID number. These are your date of birth (year, month, day).
- Choose the number of the DebiCheck you want.
- Read the details. Press *2 for the next page or *1 to go back.
- Choose 1 (Confirm/Authorise) to approve it. Option 2 says 'Cancel mandate': choose it only if you do not want to approve.
- A message confirms that it is authorised.
Nedbank has two USSD guides that word the menu differently. The other one asks for your date of birth as YYMMDD, which is the same six digits. If the menu looks different, choose DebiCheck, then 'Authorise mandate', and follow the prompts. Or use the Money app or call 0800 555 111.
On Nedbank Online Banking
- Log in with your Nedbank ID.
- Choose your account and click 'Debit orders'.
- Go to 'Mandates to authorise'.
- Check the details and click 'Authorise'.
- Confirm on the next screen.
At a Nedbank ATM
- Insert your card and enter your PIN.
- The ATM asks you about waiting mandates. Choose 'See debit orders' to approve now, or 'Go to withdrawals' to do it later.
- Choose the DebiCheck.
- Choose 'Authorise the mandate', or 'Decline the mandate'.
By phone with the Nedbank Contact Centre
- Nedbank may send you an SMS asking you to call the Contact Centre.
- Call Nedbank on 0800 555 111.
- The agent sends an Approve-it message to your registered cellphone number.
- Press 1 to authorise or 9 to decline.
Nedbank's older DebiCheck pages print 0860 555 111. Nedbank's contact page now lists 0800 555 111.
At a Nedbank branch
- Go to a Nedbank branch.
- The consultant checks who you are.
- The DebiCheck details show on the signature pad.
- Choose authorise or decline, and sign.
How long you have
Nedbank says to answer its Approve-it message within two minutes. If you miss it, Nedbank sends an SMS and you can approve on another channel.
If you missed it
After the SMS, you can still approve under 'Mandates to authorise' in the Money app or Online Banking, on *120*001#, at an ATM, at a branch or by phone. Nedbank does not say how long the request stays open. If you cannot find it, call 0800 555 111 or ask the business to send a new request.
If you pressed decline by mistake
Nedbank does not publish how to undo a decline. Contact the business and ask it to send a new DebiCheck request. Nedbank says that if you decline or do not answer, the business may set up a Registered Mandate instead: a registered debit order that does not need your approval. For a Nedbank personal loan, Nedbank says you cannot go ahead with the application if you decline.

Did it work?
Done. Your debit order is set up.
You do not need to approve it again every month. You will only be asked again if the business changes the amount or the date.

A real DebiCheck request comes from your own bank, inside its app, SMS, phone menu or ATM. It shows the business name, the amount and the collection day. Your bank will never send you a link to approve it or ask for your PIN, password or OTP.
