How to approve a DebiCheck on Absa
Absa sends a DebiCheck notification to your phone. The fastest way is the Absa app: log in, open the notification, check the details and approve. You can also use Absa Online, an Absa ATM, the phone menu (USSD) or a branch.
In the Absa banking app
- You get a DebiCheck notification on your phone.
- Log in to the Absa banking app and open the notification.
- Check the debit order details.
- Approve or reject the debit order.
On Absa Online Banking
- Log in to Absa Online Banking.
- Choose 'Payments' at the top, then 'Authorisations', then 'DebiCheck debit orders'.
- Check the details of the waiting DebiCheck carefully.
- Approve or reject it. If you reject it, choose a reason.
- Tick the box to confirm you have read the disclaimer (a short legal notice).
- Click 'Next'. You will get a verification request.
At an Absa ATM
- Insert your card and enter your PIN.
- Choose 'Other transactions', then 'DebiCheck debit orders'.

- Choose option 9.
- Your list of waiting DebiCheck debit orders shows.
- Choose the one you want to check and press 'Reply'.
- Press 1 to approve or 2 to reject.
Absa's pages show two codes. Its Cellphone Banking page gives *120*2272# and says you can DebiCheck your debit orders there. Its DebiCheck page shows *120*2277#. If the code does not work, use the Absa app or Absa Online, or call 08600 08600.
At an Absa branch
- Visit your nearest Absa branch and ask for help to approve your DebiCheck.
How long you have
Absa says each request must be approved within a set time. For requests started at an Absa branch or call centre, Absa's FAQ says before 8pm that day.
If you missed it
Absa's FAQ says that if the time runs out, Absa will tell you and start the request again. Waiting requests show on Absa Online under Payments, Authorisations, DebiCheck debit orders. If nothing comes, ask the business to send a new request.
If you pressed decline by mistake
Absa does not publish how to undo a rejection. Contact the business and ask it to send a new DebiCheck request. Absa warns that after a rejection, the business can still collect later that day as an ordinary debit order, and you still owe what your contract says.
