DebiCheck help / FNB
How to approve a DebiCheck on FNB
FNB sends the request to the FNB App, by SMS or by email. The fastest way is the FNB App: log in, tap 'Take me There', check the details and tap 'Accept'. FNB says to accept before 10pm on the day the request comes.
In the FNB App
- Open the FNB App and log in.
- Your DebiCheck requests waiting for approval show on the screen. Tap 'Take me There'.
- Check the details, then tap 'Accept'.
- A confirmation screen shows. Tap 'View details' to see the DebiCheck, then 'Finish'.
Sometimes the request pops up in the app by itself. Then tap 'Approve', or 'No, decline'. FNB says you cannot use the app for other things until you deal with waiting requests.
With Cellphone Banking (USSD)
- Dial *120*321#.
- Enter your 5-digit Cellphone Banking PIN.
- Your waiting DebiCheck requests show. Check the details.
- Choose 'Accept', or 'Reject'.
- A confirmation shows.
Sometimes the menu pops up on your phone by itself. Then choose 'View', check the details, and choose 'Accept' or 'Reject'.
On FNB Online Banking
- Log in to FNB Online Banking.
- Your waiting DebiCheck requests show.
- Choose one. Check the details, then accept or reject it.
- If asked, open the FNB App and follow the prompts.
- A thank you screen shows.
At an FNB ATM
- Insert your card and enter your PIN.
- Choose 'Approve Debit Order'.
- Choose the debit order you want to approve.
- Read the details. Choose 'More' to see the next screen.
- Choose 'Approve', then 'Proceed'.
- A thank you screen shows.
At an FNB branch
- FNB says branch staff cannot approve a DebiCheck for you.
- They can help you approve it yourself on the FNB App, Cellphone Banking, Online Banking or an FNB ATM.
How long you have
If the request comes while you are with the business, accept it then. If it comes later, FNB says accept it before 10pm on the day you get it. The FNB SMS also shows the time to accept by.
If you missed it
FNB says a request can stay on the FNB App, Online Banking, Cellphone Banking and ATM for the day, or up to 48 hours, depending on the type. If it has gone, tell the business you missed the cut-off time and ask it to send the DebiCheck request again.
If you pressed decline by mistake
FNB says: contact the business and ask it to send the DebiCheck request again. Then accept the new one. FNB also says the business can still collect from you in another way, just not as a DebiCheck, because your agreement still stands.

Did it work?
Done. Your debit order is set up.
You do not need to approve it again every month. You will only be asked again if the business changes the amount or the date.
What happened?
- Check your messages in the FNB App. FNB may send the request there instead of by SMS.
- Check that FNB has your correct cellphone number and email (your inContact details). FNB says that if they are wrong, you will not get the SMS.
- Update your details at fnb.co.za, through the FNB Contact Centre or at an FNB Service Suite.
- Make sure the business has your correct cellphone number and email too.
- Ask the business to check that it has sent the request. If your details are correct and nothing came, ask it to send the request again.

A real DebiCheck request comes from your own bank, inside its app, SMS, phone menu or ATM. It shows the business name, the amount and the collection day. Your bank will never send you a link to approve it or ask for your PIN, password or OTP.
Ask a question below, or call your bank on the number on the back of your card.
Who asked you to approve?
Type the name of the shop, lender or insurer. We will write a message asking them to send the request again.
Send it the way you usually talk to them: SMS, email, or the number on your agreement.
Questions people ask
What is the FNB USSD code for DebiCheck?
*120*321#. Enter your 5-digit Cellphone Banking PIN and your waiting DebiCheck requests show. Choose 'Accept' or 'Reject'.
Where is DebiCheck on the FNB App?
When you log in, waiting requests show on the screen. Tap 'Take me There', check the details and tap 'Accept'.
How long do I have to accept an FNB DebiCheck?
FNB's DebiCheck FAQ says before 10pm on the day the request comes. For FNB's own personal loans, FNB's loans FAQ says before 8pm. Always use the time in the FNB SMS.
Do I have to accept an FNB DebiCheck every month?
No. FNB says you confirm once, at the start of the contract. You approve again only if the details of a fixed contract change. Some debit orders, like a life policy, can go up by an agreed percentage each year without a new approval. FNB sends you an SMS when the amount changes.
The business name on the request looks different. Is it a scam?
Not always. FNB says a business sometimes uses a different trading name on the request. If you do not recognise it, ask the business before you accept.
How do I know the FNB message is real?
FNB says its message shows details of the contract you signed. FNB will never ask for personal information or ask you to click a link in a message.
Is this page from FNB?
No. Planar is not a bank and did not send your DebiCheck request. This page explains what FNB publishes about DebiCheck. Planar never asks for your PIN, password, OTP or card number.
