DebiCheck help / The business wants to change your DebiCheck date or amount
The business wants to change your DebiCheck date or amount
If an important detail changes, such as the amount or the payment date, the business sends a new request and you approve it again with your bank. You cannot change a DebiCheck yourself in your banking app. Ask the business to make the change.
How a change works
- Ask the business to change the date or amount. FNB says changes go through the business that set up the debit order.
- The business sends the change to your bank.
- Your bank sends you a request to approve the new details. Capitec says you confirm again when important details change, for example the amount or the payment date.
- Check the new details and approve them.
What can change without a new approval
FNB says some debit orders can change without a new approval. FNB still sends you an SMS when the amount changes.
- Variable debit orders, like many life policies, can go up by an agreed percentage each year.
- Usage-based debit orders, like a cellphone contract, can change with what you use.
Your payday moved
Your DebiCheck date does not move by itself when your payday changes.
Ask the business to move the collection date to just after your new payday. You will then get a request to approve the new date.
You changed banks
A DebiCheck is linked to one bank account. When you change banks, tell the business. FNB says the business must then send a changed DebiCheck, which you approve with your new bank.
Was your debit order on an Old Mutual Money Account? Old Mutual says that account closed at midnight on Monday 31 August 2026. Give the business your new account details.
Be careful
Approve a change only if you agreed to it. If a new amount or date arrives that you did not ask for, reject it and contact the business. Planar never asks for your PIN, password, OTP or card number.
Steps for your bank
Questions people ask
Can I change my DebiCheck date in my banking app?
No. Only the business can change a DebiCheck. Ask it to send the change, then approve it with your bank.
Do I have to approve a DebiCheck again if the amount changes?
Yes, if it is a fixed amount. Some debit orders, like life policies and cellphone contracts, can change within agreed limits without a new approval.
What if the new amount is higher than the maximum?
Nedbank says that if your instalment goes above the maximum on the mandate, the mandate is changed and you must approve the change.
I switched banks. Do I need a new DebiCheck?
Yes. Tell the business your new bank details. It must send a changed DebiCheck, which you approve with your new bank.
